Character & Leadership


Helping youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process is the goal of these programs. They also develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making, contributing to Club and community, and celebrating our national heritage.

Keystone Clubs

Age 14-18

Keystoning is the Boys & Girls Club Movement’s ultimate teen program for youth ages 14 to 18. This unique program provides leadership development opportunities for youth to participate in activities, both in and out of the Club, in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation and community service. With the guidance of an adult advisor, Keystone Clubs aim to positively impact teens, their Club and local communities.

Million Members, Million Hours of Service

All Ages

Studies show that young people who engage in service do better in school, maintain positive relationships with adults and avoid risky behaviors. The Million Members, Million Hours of Service initiative aims to engage 1 million Boys & Girls Club youth in service projects each year, with each donating at least one hour of service.

Youth of the Year

Age 10-18

Youth of the Year is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program. It is our signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world economy.

Torch Club

Age 11-13

Torch Clubs are chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. A Torch Club is a powerful vehicle that helps Club staff meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life.

Health & Sports


These Club programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment, and social and interpersonal skills. Sports include; boxing, basketball, baseball, dodge ball, yoga, flag football, and Boot Camp for Teens.

Intramurals & Tournaments

All Ages

Held throughout the year, these programs give members the opportunity for healthy competition, while teaching good sportsmanship skills and emphasizing having FUN.

Triple Play

All Ages

Triple Play offers a comprehensive health and wellness program, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, striving to improve the overall health of Club members by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

SMART Moves

Age 5-15

SMART Moves is a prevention and education program addressing problems such as drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity.

ALL STARS

Age 6-18

The ALL STARS program engages Club members ages 6-18 in football, basketball, cheerleading, and dancing.

Passport to Manhood

Age 13-18

Passport to Manhood teaches responsibility to boys ages 13 to 18 with sessions that focus on a specific aspect of character and manhood through highly interactive activities.

3v3 Basketball League

All Ages

Members are learning how to properly play basketball. They are learning how to dribble, pass, shoot, and play defense. They are also learning the importance of work ethic, self-discipline, and perseverance.

SMART Girls

Age 13-18

SMART Girls provides health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement for girls ages 13 to 18.

Youth Boxing

All Ages

Members are learning the fundamental skills of Boxing. This program also teaches focus, hand-eye coordination, and concentration skills. 

Cooking Club

Ages 10-12

Tweens are learning how to make some healthy meals and snacks.

Healthy Habits

Age 6-12

Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improved overall well-being.

Veggie Mobile

All Ages

Members are learning about fruits, vegetables, gardening, and various food recipes. The kids also get the opportunity to taste/sample the food.

Academics


Our aim is to ensure that all Club members graduate from high school on time, ready for a post-secondary education and a 21st-century career.

Cradle to Career

Ages 6-7

This program is tailored to increase a child's reading and comprehension skills. Each child receives one book per week, with our partners at LISD.

Project Learn

All Ages

Project Learn reinforces the academic enrichment and school engagement of young people during the time they spend at the Club.

Money Matters

Age 13-18

Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13 to 18. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, create a budget, save and invest, start small businesses and pay for college.

STEM

Ages 6-9

Cadets have the opportunity to do project based learning activities tailored around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. 

Summer Brain Gain

All Ages

Summer Brain Gain is comprised of one-week modules with fun, themed activities for elementary school, middle school and high school students that are aligned with common core anchor standards. In addition, Summer Brain Gain: Read!, a literacy program, complements the larger Summer Brain Gain curriculum.

My Future

All Ages

My Future is a platform to support STEM learning and exploration and is supported by Comcast NBC Universal, a global media and technology company.

Power Hour

Age 6-18

Power Hour: Making Minutes Count provides Club professionals with the strategies, activities, resources and information to create an engaging homework help and tutoring program that encourages Club members of every age to become self-directed learners.

Scholarship Opportunities

As Club teens expand their leadership skills through the Youth of the Year program and look to life beyond the Clubhouse, the Boys & Girls Clubs’ Alumni & Friends Scholarship Fund provides participants scholarships to help them further their education and pursue their passions in life.

Every year, approximately 94 participants from across the country and military bases worldwide are awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships as state, regional and National Youth of the Year finalists.

Scholarship for Alumni & Members Only

As a Club member or alum, you may qualify for scholarships to attend the college of your choice. Many different kinds of scholarships exist, and eligibility requirements can vary based upon your cumulative GPA, ACT or SAT scores, and course performance.

Go Blue Guarantee

If you are an undergraduate admitted to U-M and qualify for in-state tuition, the university will pay full tuition and mandatory university fees for up to four years for students with family incomes of $65,000 or less and assets below $50,000 and who are pursuing their first bachelor’s degree.

Scholarship America

Scholarship America manages thousands of scholarship programs. Many are only open to employees of the sponsoring company or their families, but some are available to students in the general public. 


Career Development


Career Development prepares teens for life after their Boys and Girls Club experience. Focusing on post-secondary challenges, opportunities and education. The Career Development program mentors teens as they engage in the workforce for the first time. Filling out job applications, creating resumes, applying for FAFSA and scholarship workshops, are all part of the program arc for our teens. The Career Development program works in 4 phases focusing on one unique aspect of post-secondary life at a time.

Comcast My.Future

Technology is constantly changing, and our youth depend on it. It is critical to ensure access to technology for youth who may not have the opportunity to learn digital literacy and pursue their technology-related interests at home or school. STEM occupations out-earn non- STEM fields by 12-30% across all education levels (Source: Smithsonian Science Education Center). By introducing youth to new technology skills in Clubs, they may be more likely to pursue a career in a STEM-related field.

Junior Staff

Junior Staff is a small-group program that is both practical and user friendly. It assists Club members in exploring a career in youth or human services, particularly Boys & Girls Club work.

Career Launch

Age 13-18

CareerLaunch prepares teens for the world of careers and work. Through CareerLaunch, Club teens 13-18 years old embark on a journey to explore possible vocations, make sound educational decisions and find success in the world of work.

The Arts


These programs are designed to foster creativity in young people, and give them outlets for self-expression. From drama to sculpture, our arts programs have something that will inspire everyone.

Ongoing Art Classes

All Ages

Held throughout the year, this program is the one that is requested the most. Our art teacher, has been a constant with our program and inspires creativity in all our youth.

The Croswell

All Ages

Throughout the year opportunities are available to take part in live performances at one of Michigan's most beautiful auditoriums that has been lovingly restored to its original 19th-century grandeur. 

The Croswell Opera House also partners with us to offer scholarships to summer performing arts camps providing an educational experience for youth interested in the performing arts by exposing them to high standards and production values and giving them an opportunity to work with accomplished professionals in their field.

Scholarships to Camps

All Ages

We partner with local community programs to offer even more. 

LISD offers scholarships to camps that teach welding, science, math, and auto mechanics. 
Adrian Center for the Arts offers scholarships to camps that teach about working with clay, glass, sculpture, and painting.
